WHAT I DO
Hi I’m Charlotte, a freelance equestrian coach and Sport and Exercise Psychologist in Training, based in North Wiltshire. I live with my husband, our daughter, two dogs, and my horse, Jiffy.
My career in the equine industry began at the age of 16, when I left school to pursue my passion for horses. I started as a working pupil at a local riding school, gaining my BHS instructor qualifications and building what would become a coaching career spanning more than 25 years. While coaching provided me with invaluable practical experience, it was the psychological side of performance that increasingly captured my interest.
Through my work with riders, I became acutely aware of the powerful role that thoughts, emotions, and beliefs play in performance, confidence, and learning. This led me to formally study Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), qualifying as an NLP Practitioner in 2017, and later as an NLP Master Practitioner while completing my undergraduate studies.
In 2018, I enrolled on the Centre10 Applied Psychology for Equestrian Coaches programme, qualifying as a Centre10 Advanced Coach. This training proved to be a turning point, inspiring me to pursue an academic pathway in psychology. I completed a First-Class BSc (Hons) in Psychology in 2023, followed by an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the University of the West of England in 2024.
In 2025, I began the next stage of my professional development: three years of supervised practice with BASES as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist in Training. This process will lead to full registration as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist, allowing me to continue supporting riders using evidence-based psychological approaches.
My work is grounded in an understanding of both performance psychology and the lived experience of riding. I am particularly interested in confidence, anxiety, self-belief, and the horse–rider relationship, and I aim to support riders in developing the mental skills needed to perform, learn, and enjoy their sport.
